Sandra Calderón-Huezo


Sandra Calderón-Huezo was born in San Salvador, El Salvador. Although she lived in New Jersey for a few years, her family found sanctuary in Kalamazoo, and stayed after receiving political asylum.


Sandra attended Western Michigan University and received her degree in Political Science with a minor in Criminal Justice.


Sandra loves her Latine community and has been honored with serving on the Board of Directors for El Concilio as Vice President. She held a director role for the Foundation for Excellence, and now serves as their President. She also serves as a director on the Civil Rights Board for the City of Kalamazoo.


In addition, Sandra has had the privilege of serving on fundraising committees for organizations that have made tremendous impact on the lives of children and families, such as Big Brothers Big Sisters and the YWCA Edison Dreamery expansion.


Sandra is currently employed as a Family and Community Liaison for the YWCA of Kalamazoo. She is also building her experience as a racial healing practitioner with the guidance of Truth Racial Healing Transformation of Battle Creek.


Sandra is the proud mother of two amazing young adults and the eldest of three siblings. Her family enjoys time outdoors, nostalgic TV shows and the company of their beloved animal companions. For enjoyment and relaxation Sandra loves to snowboard, attend live music shows and art in all its forms.
