Patricia Bredehoft

Patricia Bredehoft was born and raised in San Jose Costa Rica. She moved to the United Sates when she was 25 years old. She received a bachelor's degree in Public Relations and Communications, and a master’s degree in Business Administration.

After Patricia married her husband, she moved to Newark Ohio in 1995. There she had the opportunity to teach Spanish to kindergarteners. As far as Patricia can remember, she has always volunteered with different age groups (children, young adults, and adults).

Due to work, Patricia's family was transferred to the Battle Creek in 1997. It was in Battle Creek that she began to meet more Latine individuals and build a sense of home. Patricia began to attend a Spanish speaking church, meeting people interested in giving back to the community. Over the next 25 years, Patricia has volunteered for different groups and causes: church events, Jaycees group, AAWM, an internal program for Latinos at the Federal Center, an education program that helped young adults acquiring their high school diplomas, and Christmas parties for children in the community to name a few.

Most recently, Patricia volunteers for the Battle Creek Latin American Heritage Initiate group. She supports in planning of events to share knowledge about the Latine community. Sharing with others what all is encompassed in it means to be Latine, and also providing opportunities future generations through a scholarship or awarding a computer to a student to use for their studies.

It has been because of all these opportunities that Patricia feels she has a grown as a person, wanting to learn more about others and what affects the community. Volunteering has always been something that Patricia has enjoyed doing, and the opportunities to in Battle Creek to support the Latine community has immensely fulfilled her in cultivating a community she calls home.

Patricia loves to travel a lot. She loves to meet people from around the world. Understanding that each of them has a story to tell, enriching her with their culture and stories.
