Lisa Garcia, a founding member of ELLAS, is the Assistant Vice President for Community Partnerships at Western Michigan University. Prior to her work as an administrator, she was the director of the WMU Business Connection for 10 years and was an advertising executive for 15 years at agencies in New York City, Chicago, and Dallas. Throughout her career, Ms. Garcia has worked on numerous high-profile accounts such as Nickelodeon and Van Heusen and has also worked closely with major retailers such as Costco and Wal-Mart.
Lisa is currently leading the Corporate Engagement initiative for WMU and served for many years as Vice-President of the Kalamazoo Literacy Council. She has also served as a board member for the Council for the Study of Community Colleges and is currently on the editorial board of the Journal of Women and Gender.
Garcia has a bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Michigan and
a master’s degree in advertising from the University of Texas-Austin. She is currently a
Ph.D. candidate in Educational Leadership at WMU. Lisa has received many awards for her doctoral work including the Rising Star award from WMU’s College of Education and Human Development. Her published works include topics such as women’s leadership in community colleges, educational technology, and gender bias.
