Ivett Lopez

Born and raised in México, Ivett's family migrated to the US in 1995. In California, she became the first person in her family to graduate from high school and went on to receive a doctorate degree from the University of California, Berkeley.

She is currently an Assistant Professor of Spanish at Kalamazoo College. Her research and teaching focus on 20th- and 21st-century Latin American cultural production. Ivett's passion for her work is inspired by her students for whom she aspires to be the resource and support system that higher education institutions not always provide.

Her experience also encompasses the nonprofit section. One of Ivett's most empowering experiences was her work at Girls Incorporated of Orange County, where she had the opportunity to work with and learn from Latina girls.
