Imelda ‘Meli’ Aparicio


Imelda ‘Meli’ Aparicio (Hernandez) was born in San Luis Potosí, México. Her family migrated to USA in 1989. Her family landed in Bangor, Michigan where she was raised. She attended Bangor Public Schools where she learned English and became involved in helping the Hispanic community. During her Junior and Senior year, Imelda volunteered as a teacher’s aide in the English as a Second Language (ESL) class for adults.


Imelda is a first-generation college graduate. She obtained her bachelor’s from Western Michigan University where she majored in Criminal Justice and minored in Social Psychology. She also obtained a Medical Assistant Certification.


Imelda has worked in the medical sector for more than 20 years. She has held different duties helping to diversify her knowledge of medical care. Some of most rewarding duties have include taking care of patients, interpreting/translating materials to Spanish, training medical staff in electronic health records (EMR), and working with the migrant community.

Imelda is passionate about education for all students because she believes they are the future. She was recently elected as a school board member where she hopes to make a difference by collaborating with school staff, students and the community.


Imelda is very close to her family. She is the mother of twins, who attend Bangor Public Schools. She enjoys watching her twins play sports, and serves as an assistant soccer coach for the middle school boys’ and girls’ soccer teams.
