Angie Sackett


Maria Angela Sackett (Angie) is an educator: a reading specialist and English and history teacher. For the last ten years, Angie has taught reading, writing, and discipline specific content to young children, youth, and adults. She earned a master’s degree in literacy studies and a bachelor’s degree in secondary education. Her expertise includes teaching critical thinking and reading comprehension; she is also versed in the science of reading and teaching reading at the foundational levels. Her aptitude is evident within program development and coordination. Angie is known for her enthusiasm, her professionalism, her commitment, and her work with vulnerable students.


Angie is community minded. She founded a community college student organization, Latinos United Mentorship Club. She was also a “big sister” for a young adult through the Big Brothers/Big Sisters organization. Angie has been a mentor to many.


Angie loves to meet people from various backgrounds, especially within the international communities. She has studied abroad in Inner Mongolia, China and in Guanajuato, Mexico where she conducted an ethnographic case study about literacy. She believes in learning through authentic conversations and is ever so curious about vastly different cultures and customs.


During the summer months, to recharge after a school year, Angie loves to relax by camping at various locations around Michigan. She spends time at Lake Michigan wading in the water after climbing the sand dunes.


Fun Fact: Angie is a retired cosmetologist and is still a beauty enthusiast!
